Kathy Week 18: (Early) Anniversary Getaway

Week 18 Stats:
Today's Weight: 140??
Last Week's Weight: 139
Starting Weight: 151
Total Weight Loss: 11 pounds

I confess I'm guessing at today's weight...I'm not at home, and I don't have a scale. Mark and I are celebrating our 16th anniversary a couple of weeks early. We slipped away for a much-needed getaway at a nearby Bed and Breakfast...only about 20 minutes away from our home, but it feels like we're a thousand miles away...

Ahhh...R&R from our normal routines. This getaway won't last long, as we have commitments at home to keep, but even this short time away has let us recharge our batteries, and see our lives in a fresh perspective.

Happy May Day! I've written before about the play day that Mark and I try to take on the first Saturday of every month. This Bed and Breakfast has some beautiful scenery. A sweet wild garden out back, with a lovely pond and bridge. This photo was taken about 500 feet away from where some of the filming was done for the Twilight movie (the scene behind Stone Cliff Restaurant), so it really does feel like a wild forest, even though we're not very far from town.

We can see the beautiful Clackamas River from our bedroom window.

The "breakfast" part of our Bed and Breakfast was sooo delicious this morning. It was filled with northwest yumminess, and much healthier than what we could have ordered in a restaurant. Ok, so it was a few more calories than I would eat at home...
First some Rainier cherries that our hostess canned last summer, with fresh apple slices.
She also brought out small fresh strawberry smoothies - they were gone before we could snap a photo!

Then mini-muffins stuffed with blueberries, an omelette (no cheese), and crisp bacon.
What a treat!

Thank you, Clackamas River House Bed and Breakfast for a wonderful (too short...) getaway with my sweetheart! In another hour or two, I'll be back to the same-ol, same-ol.

For me today, that's looking like:
3 loads of laundry
plan the weekly menus
a trip to the grocery store
grade several batches of student papers and plan next week's lessons
organize my Sunday School lesson for tomorrow
and...
Plant the Garden! Hooray! We get to play in the dirt!

Well, it's a little garden. But we cram lots of healthy luscious things into it! Here's a photo from Aug 2007. Can't wait to pluck the yummy morsels and pop them into my mouth this summer! Mmmm, mmmmm.

Speaking of recreation...if you haven't clicked over to Dorothy's blog yet, you might enjoy reading about her version of recreation this week. Ahhhhh... (That's Dorothy, who writes wrote "Walking in Circles" here.)

Now, Skinny readers, it's time for you to leave a comment! What do you love to do for a getaway? Have you been able to plant a garden yet? How are your health/weight loss goals coming along? (And remember that health includes recreation as well as counting calories. Our play times truly re-create us!) I'd love to hear from you, wherever you are in this beautiful world!

Have a great week, and be sure to leave a comment!

Wow! I would love to go there! After Bryan and Katie's wedding extravaganza I would move to Oregon/Portland in a heartbeat. Maybe I'll convince my future husband to move up there. It's so pretty!

Our puny little garden of three tomato plants is coming along rather pathetically. Especially now that it's been snowing here the past couple of days. But I still have hope for it. I'm thinking once this crazy cold weather goes away for good I might get a few more (started) plants to go in the buckets of dirt that currently contain the tomato plants that just didn't make it. Any suggestions for yummy things that would grow well in a bucket?

As for getaways, it sure was fun to go on vacation. Although I wish we could have been there longer to spend more time at all of our favorite places. I would have especially loved to spend more time at the beach, but I don't think Olivia would have made it anyway. Glad you had a nice little getaway though!

Hey, glad you and Mark get to have a relaxing get-away, too! How wonderful!

My garden this year? Herbs and chard and kale in grow boxes on the deck, and then some tomato plants in the yard. And I'll be checking in at our local Farmer's Market most weekends!

Oh how I wish I could start a little garden...just not really a possibility at our current residence, but someday for sure! :)

Our play dates? Well, lately my hubby has been studying for the GMAT and so they are short and far between, however we have managed to make some morning races a bit of a getaway for us...at least a getaway from the normal routine! The other weekend we went to a drive in- it was pure bliss. I made a picnic to take and we laid the sleeping bags in the back of my suv and we played cards until it got dark and the movie started...it was for sure a great play date! The weather was just perfect and it is always fun to see the sun go down, the stars start to appear, and be out in the fresh air!

Sounds like you had a good weekend! Wahoo!
