I can tri!

Hello all you bloggins out there. I'm Lisa. And I am currently training for a triathlon. And I use the term "training" pretty loosely. Two years ago, I did my first triathlon. And then I did a couple more. Now granted these were "sprint" triathlons (350 - 800 meter swims, 11-15 miles biking, and 3.2 miles running) not even close to an Ironman (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run. !!) I find triathlons to be just challenging enough to make you want to cry a little but fun enough to want to do another one someday! They are like little American Gladiators with lots of fun obstacles.

The Problem: I am so tired at nights (I work and am in graduate school) that it's hard to be motivated to go to the gym. And, like Katie, I sweat a lot, so I have to consciously think about what else am I doing that night, do I need to shower again? Time consuming. And I'm usually up late at night researching or reading for school, so waking up early to go to the gym is hard as well.

A few solutions I've come up with: Look for exercise options everywhere. I park far away from my work building and take the stairs to the third floor. I have been trying to walk to a colleagues desk instead of emailing or calling. If I'm going to be working at my desk for awhile, I'll stand up and work. If I have a book or article to read for school, I'll take it to the gym and walk on the track or treadmill (except I have tripped a couple times...watch out for that...)

So. This week, I will focus more on looking for exercise options everywhere!

Great ideas Lisa. You are so hardcore. Although I think the big O would be a little sad if we skipped the elevator when we come to visit you. She loves all those mirrors. :)

Lisa, I agree about looking for exercise everywhere. I've found that the parking garage clear across campus is actually cheaper...so on Monday and Wednesday nights I walk 1/2 mile (roundtrip) instead of just across the street. And I take the stairs to my 3rd-floor class.

At work every day, my office is on the 2nd floor, so I have to take the stairs a lot. I try to "run" (loosely used) up the stairs at least once a day...that means I make sure I'm moving my feet faster than the normal trudge. But it's great - it gets my heart rate up!

I'd love to be healthy enough to participate in a sprint triathlon someday!

Yea Lisa! A sprint triathlon would
be cool, but the swimming would kill me. I really admire all that you do!
