brushing your teeth is good

not many thoughts today, but i did come across an interesting tidbit of info. mouth health is a huge part of long-term overall health, and my husband is an avid brusher (right after eating, every time) so this headline caught my eye. i found this part interesting.

"One caveat to brushing after you eat is if you've eaten an acidic food or drink — for example, orange juice. Avoid brushing your teeth for at least 30 minutes after acidic foods and beverages. These acids weaken tooth enamel, and brushing too soon can cause damage to the enamel. If you know you're going to eat or drink something very acidic ahead of time, you may want to brush your teeth first. "

who knew?

And you need to always brush with fluoride because other wise you aren't protecting your teeth from cavities...does that sound super obvious? (Some ppl lately have been iffy about fluoride.) My husband is a dentist...what can I say?

I didn't know about not brushing after acidic foods, nor did I know that adults still need to brush with fluoride. Thanks for the good tips, Marae and Heidi!

I usually just brush once a day, but I've become a regular (daily) flosser the last few years - wonder if that has anything to do with why I hardly ever get sick?

I didn't know this. However, I am pleased to say that after your post some time ago about brushing and flossing teeth and how it can lead to good overall health I have been infinitely better about flossing. This is also because I was having sensitivity problems, so the dentist recommended that I brush with toothpaste for sensitive teeth (and brush softly with a soft bristle brush), floss, and rinse with a fluoride mouth wash every night. With few exceptions, I've done this every day and I have definitely noticed a difference. My teeth don't feel sensitive anymore. Yay! And I just feel a lot better. So, definitely some great advice. Thanks Alex.

We'd love to hear from you!
